As we said earlier, Pournami lottery is part of Kerala State Lotteries who releases 7 weekly lottery and 6 bumper lottery under their lottery scheme. Pournami lottery is the one whose draw is made on Sunday. In the past when private lottery was banned, State of Kerala started the lottery service in 1967 to help fund employment and to increase the government revenue without affecting the people. It was how Pournami lottery, one of 7 weekly lottery was launched. State of Kerala is the first one in the country to launch state-owned lotteries. The lottery scheme was covered by other states too and they too launched their own lottery later on.
Prize structure of Pournami Lottery
There are different levels of prize in Pournami lottery which depends on the position secured. The first prize of the lottery is Rs 70 lakhs. Pournami lottery costs Rs 30 for each. The prize winner will get the money only after they show the winning lottery ticket to the Kerala State Gazzette to verify the lottery number within 30 days of the result announcement. No. of Winners of Pournami Lottery
There have been 363 rounds of Pournami Lottery till date and the next will be announced this Sunday. There are total 90 lakh tickets in the Pournami Lottery. The tickets are always in the Ten-series.
There is only one and unique winner for the 1st prize, 2nd prize and 3rd prize. As for the winners of 4th prize, 5th prize, 6th prize, 7th prize and 8th prize the winners are numerous ranging from 9 to 104 depending on the prize slab.
Results Date
Pournami lottery is a weekly lottery and the result of the lottery is announced every Sunday. The Kerala State Lotteries announce the results at 3 pm on every Sunday for Pournami lottery. The result is conducted by using lottery machine. The results starts at 3 pm and with full results announced by 4 pm. The lottery results is also published in the Gazette and is also uploaded on the website of Directorate of Kerala State Lotteries.
The winners of the lottery are advised to surrender the winning lottery ticket within 30 days to the Kerala State Gazette so that verification can be done. The prize winners also have to send the necessary documents with the ticket so as to claim it. Furthermore, it also depends on the level of prize money as to which documents needs to be submitted.
Procedure for claiming lottery prize money
- For prize money up to 1 lakh, the amount can be claimed by the winner from the District Lottery Offices which fall under the judiciary of the winner.
- For prize money more than 1 lakh, the winner needs to surrender the ticket to the Director of State Lotteries. The winner also needs to put his/her sign and other details like name, address on the back of the ticket and also should submit the specified documents with the lottery.
- And the prize claim should be done within the 30 days from the announcement of the lottery result.
Furthermore, the necessary specified documents required for the prize money above 1 lakh are-
- Self-attested copy of both sides of the ticket.
- 2- Passport size photos of the winner along with the attestation from the either of gazette officer or notary.
- The winner should also download the receipt form and fill it with the full address and should affix a stamp of Re 1 on the form.
- A self-attested copy of the PAN Card of the winner.
- Incase the winners are joint, then either both or one of them who are authorized should submit joint declaration on a stamp paper of Rs 50. That will allow you to receive the prize money.
- Incase if the winner is a minor, then the appropriate guardian should also submit the guardianship certificate.
- And last on the least, you should also submit the identity proof in form of ration card, driving license, passport, voter id card or any other address proof.

The winner will not receive the entire lottery amount as some of it will be deducted as part of the tax liability. At present, for prize money over Rs 10,000 will be treated as per the prevailing rate of the income tax, i.e. 30% slab.
Furthermore, the prize money from Rs 1 lakhs to Rs 20 lakhs will be sanctioned by the Deputy Director of the Kerala State Lotteries while any amount which is greater than Rs 20 lakhs will need to be passed from the Director itself.
